The Mum Club featuring Huddle and Bliss

Pregnancy and the arrival of a new baby is a time of great change for all parents.  At huddle & bliss we fully appreciate this and through our own experiences we understand the importance of making new friends who are experiencing the same new challenges as you.  By attending antenatal classes you not only widen your friendship circle from the outset but you gain invaluable knowledge that will empower you in making decisions and choices that affect you and your little one.  Looking after a new baby can be terribly isolating and lonely so going to classes such as baby massage will not only bring benefits such as bonding with your baby, learning to read their cues, and gaining confidence in your maternal instincts, it will also give you a support network of other mums facing the same challenges on a day to day basis.  At huddle & bliss we consider friendship and support one of the cornerstones of enjoying the early days of parenthood.

In today’s hectic world it is so important to spend quality time with your baby.  A baby’s first close relationship is the foundation upon which all future relationships are based.  By spending focused one to one time with them we demonstrate our love for them in an amazing way.  Spending such time is also great for a new mum’s wellbeing too.  During baby massage, oxytocin is released not only in baby’s body but also in mum’s too.  This feel good hormone lifts our spirits, is a natural pain reliever, has a direct effect on milk production and can lower the blood pressure of mothers regularly giving massage to their babies.  The opportunity to have an adult conversation, to get outside of the home, drink a hot cup of coffee or tea, to chat with likeminded mums can be very significant to our emotional wellbeing during our early days of parenthood.

I speak from experience as after the birth of my first son I didn’t do any of these things.  The isolation and loneliness built up very quickly and I found myself feeling very depressed and low.  I felt such a failure and overwhelmed by the new challenges that I faced and as a successful career woman I found this extremely difficult to accept.  Today, one of the most wonderful aspects of running huddle & bliss is being able to use my experiences to help new mums cope with the challenges of the early days. My team and I, many of whom are former baby massage clients themselves, find It so utterly rewarding to see new friendships grow and then to continue and blossom just as their babies do.  Happy mum does equate to a happy baby.
