TMC Back to school guide.
Some of us are Mary Freakin’ Poppins when it comes to organisation and school prep. But most of us aren’t, because well.. LIFE. So for all those that are in panic final week countdown mode. Here are some of our pointers to help you and your family out so the transition back is that little bit easier and you can skip out of the school gates ready for some alone time;
Gone are the sewing in name days, although there is a small part of us that will always love the hand stitched type ain’t nobody got time for that. Stamps are the way forward.
GET BACK INTO ROUTINE NOW
The sooner the better. Rather than try and battle with them on the night before school to go to bed at 7 when they’ve been up to whatever time they like for 6 weeks, start putting routine in place a few days or even a week before it begins. That way they’ll start the school year a fresh and not knackered.
It might be appealing to buy cheap. But trust us, you’ll just end up having to buy another next term. Buy once buy well, and also buy a size bigger that you need. They can drown a little in it for the first year, and by year two it’ll fit them perfectly. Our favourites are these Mini Rodini navy coats.
SHOP FOR SCHOOL SUPPLIES WITH THEM
Get them excited about it. Let them pick their own back pack, lunch box, and pencil case (from your chosen few, obviously ;) ) This gives them a bit of responsibility and gears them up.
No, we don’t mean covering every book they own with wrapping paper, god I loved doing that as a kid. We mean their are only so many shops and your kids are bound to have the same as someone else, so get some key chains from Smiggle (yes, we are sorry) so they recognise their bags which will make everyones life a lot easier!
SHOES GO STERDY
Jess has got her 2 Kickers this year. They last, hard wearing and lets be honest are fecking cool. Who else had kickers CIRCA 1998?
PREPARE FOR THE ONSLAUGHT OF PAPERWORK.
With school comes a shit tone of paper work for parents. Find a spot in the house that you and your kids know is where all forms and school related stuff goes. That way there will be no screaming down the house at 7am trying to find the school trip pay slip!
UNIFORM ONE STOP
Save yourself a head ache and go to one shop for it all. Our go to is John Lewis, but wherever it is rather than buy bits and bobs from everywhere. Keep it simple.
STREAMLINE YOUR BATHROOM
Tooth brushes, check. Hair brushes, check. Hair bands, check. Gel, check. Whatever they need to get ready in the mornings get the bathroom sorted so that it works. Everything is in front of them and you can go from bed to school without world war three starting!
