How I got my post baby bod.
I wish I could tell you that I sat and ate cake all day every day, that the cake turned into muscles which ate up all the wobbly bits and voilà, six-pack! I'm afraid that's not how it went. From the moment Ted, our second child was born, I knew I needed to kick my ass into shape if I wanted to look my best for our wedding day. A goal in these situations is key, so find yourself a goal and if you can't find one, make one! A holiday, a girls night out or maybe your birthdays coming up, Whatever IT is, make it your goal.
It is harder after the second baby, everything contracts back that little bit slower and wobbles for a bit longer. You also now have two demanding babies to keep you up all night...and all day. Please explain when, in that long 24hours of no sleep and only eating Mars Bars am I going to want to go for a run??? Not to mention, getting one cute baby looked after is easy. When you have a baby and a toddler the offers for childcare stop rolling in and people stop answering your calls.
I truly started to get my ass in shape when Ted was around 4 months old because there is nothing like going to try wedding dresses on to make you realise you are far from you're target weight. I was lucky, he was a good sleeper and eater...and pooper. So I had just about enough energy to crawl off the sofa, away from the Mars Bars and out for a run. I am a member at a gym but my confidence was low and the chavs at the park made me run that little bit faster. After having Nell, our first child I tried the 3/4 Diet. This really helped me loose that last bit of baby weight, so I decided to go with that one again. It basically consists of very low calories and sugar for 3 days, then eat whatever you want for the other 4. When I first read this I couldn't believe it would work, surely you would put all weight lost back on in the 4 days, if not more? ...But after losing a good few lbs on the first 3 days I didn't want to binge, my stomach had also shrank so I couldn't eat as much as with my mammoth sized gut beforehand and the milky brew I used to indulge in on every opportunity tasted like warm cream. The diet also meant I could go for dinner and drinks at the weekend without any guilt. Everyone needs a cheat day or 4.
Once I was fed up of being chased by chavs I ventured to the gym. My gym has an amazing creche, which was ideal because I wasn't ready for Ted to go to nursery just yet but at the same time it got him used to being away from me. I got very into my spin classes and as much as they hurt my fadge they are great for shredding weight, I would then finish the session off with some weight training or short circuits. I did that around twice a week as well as a road run once a week. I'm no expert with weights but my new husband was full of advice and the little stick men on the machines aren't too hard to follow. Due to my wedding fast approaching I was focusing on cardio to be slim, now I don't do half as much spinning now, much to the joy of my vagina.
My advice would be - Do NOT have a target weight, muscle weighs more than fat and 60kg looks different on every body. When you feel happy and confident in your body, that is when you have reached your goal stretch marks and all. Lastly for you bride-to-be's, be your target body shape when you go dress shopping. It is much harder to imagine how you 'might' look than falling in love with the reflection in the mirror.
