Hi.

Welcome to The Mum Club, we are Jess and Lauren thanks for stopping by. Please let us know if we can help you with anything...

Party like a toddle

Party like a toddle

My first born was three yesterday *cries*.  Although the thought of her growing up too quickly makes me want to lock her away in that cupboard under the stairs from a life of boys, tweezers and comparison. I am completely embracing the years I have left to throw her birthday parties with my influence, my colour scheme, and where she still thinks I'm cool.

Invites.
In my eyes there is no better children's party invite then the ones we got as children. The 'Fill in the blanks' flimsy bits of paper with the terrible illustration that incidentally had nothing to do with the theme. Hey- 'If it ain't broke'. Plus in a terribly depressing way, these are now quite retro. So check out Asda, they seem to have the best range.

Decor
Balloons, Balloons, Balloons. I am obsessed, as are children. Which probably tells you more about my mental state then it should. But what is a party these days without a series of cactus, pineapple or unicorn balloons. The Pretty Little Party Shop is the perfect place to find such delights. It also sells bunting, nothing says kids party more than a ton of bunting, plus it is cheap and makes any venue look like a party palace.

Food
Children's birthday parties are ladened with sugar and saturated fat. Of course we all love a pink wafer and a doughnut and we definitely don't want to be known as sad salad sally at school, so I think it is about balance. Jamie Oliver, the god of children's healthy eating explores some great options but my go to is Pinterest, a plethora of exciting creative healthy food ideas to play with. Who doesn't want all their food made into caterpillars..

Cake
Ok so although I advocate children having healthy options at birthday parties I do not believe the cake should be where to find this. A cake should be a cake. Sugar filled, sugar covered and sugar dipped. Of course if you want to avoid the cake (you're mental) than you can. But a cake is the wow factor of a birthday, its the thing most kids look forward to.  Fondant Fox have some unbelievable cake recipes to choose from, but if you are not culinary skilled or don't have a spare few hours between juggling the kids and blowing up 4 million balloons, to make a cake and you don't want to blow your budget having one made. Head to Sainsbury's and buy the biggest Chocolate gateau you can find, cover it in sprinkles and buy some of Lola beau's amazing toy animal candles. In fact buy these anyway with or without a party.

Games
Pass the Parcel. Done.

Entertainment.
Lets be honest clowns are scary. Like, stupidly scary and no one wants a petrified screaming kid sapping the fun out of the day. So lets re think. This is where I would spend my party budget. A good kids entertainer can keep your kids (Cough* babysit them) interested for the entire duration. Dazzle and Fizz are my go to on children's party entertainment. Offering everything from dancing, theatre, drama ( as if you need more) storytelling, magic, balloons. The works. Totally instagramable cuteness. Not to forget roping dad in for some good old face paints.

Booze
Yes you read right. A must. If you have ever looked after more than two children in one go then you will know a bottle of wine is the finest compliment. There is a lot of talk these days about a parents happiness, and that if they are content then so will their children be.  So lets think about the adults. Make sure the party is only a few hours long, there are tons of beers, mimosa's and vodka jelly shots (just kidding...kind of). That way your kids are being entertained and you feel like you've had an afternoon off too.

Last and by no means least- Party Bags
Everyone loves a goodie bag. Every event I've ever attended that hands out a goodie bag at the end is a successful one if you ask me. Yes we came to celebrate with you, to eat cake, dance, sing happy birthday but really we came to leave back to the comforts of our own home with a bag of free shit. Wahoo! Check out The Original Party Bag Company for an amazing range of pre filled party bags and you can use our unique discount code while your at it - mumclub10
