The Mum Club Featuring Piccolo

MY NAME IS …  Cat Gazzoli

I LIVE IN…London during the week, Italy on weekends

I FEEL MOST AT HOME… wherever my family is

THINGS THAT KEEP ME AWAKE AT NIGHT… Being a mum is one thing, but juggling big decisions about your child’s future with your other half has been a learning curve. The schooling system is ``very different       between Italy and the UK - the two countries we live between and we want her to be influenced by both cultures – it’s just working out what the right option is for her to feel most happy and settled when she starts school

I WANTED TO BE WHEN I GREW UP…I started my career in the United Nations, and had a terrific female mentor who at the time was the highest ranking female in the UN Secretariat, the nerve centre of major global decision making. She was a huge inspiration to me. I thought when I was studying at the UN International School and with her my mentor, that I would stay on with the UN and follow her footsteps. I did for a period but then realised that I was destined to start a business with purpose that would continue to support the food education work I did in the UN

MY FIRST STEPS TAKEN TO START MY BRAND WHERE... Give myself deadlines with people who I really look up to and would not want to disappoint e.g. My mentors and my dad.

THIS KEEPS ME SANE... Reading cookbooks with my daughter Juliet and choosing out our favourite recipes to make together

I COULD NOT LIVE WITHOUT (PHYSICAL OBJECT)... My KitchenAid.  It’s a fantastic pink one. Juliet loves it too

MY BIGGEST RISK... Starting the seeds of a business when you are pregnant is one thing, but in order to really get Piccolo going, I did have to at times rely on the Italian family to share in supporting me to work and raise Juliet. People said it was a risk but actually seeing her bonds to her grandparents and wider Italian family in Friuli Venezia Giulia is a gift for her. We are very bonded as mother and daughter and have our own rhythm.

MY BIGGEST ACCOMPLISHMENT... When Juliet sees other children with Piccolo, she is very proud and tells them it’s made by her mummy

I WOULD HAVE DONE THIS DIFFERENTLY… I would have started earlier both on the having children and starting a business front. There is a lot to be said for experience but I basically had Juliet and Piccolo at the same time.  That’s a lot to juggle!
