The Mum Club Featuring Digital Bon Bons
We meet and speak to lots of mumtrepreneurs, many of whom after having children decide to take on a new venture which usually coincides with a hobby rather than a past career. But who says you cannot continue on the same path but alter it slightly to suit your new set up. We met with Maxine, founder of Digital Bon Bons, the digital marketing agency for business focused on the little people in our lives. Maxine worked in digital marketing for 6 years working for a number of industries and once she became a mother decided to set up shop and create her own marketing consultancy. Here we had the pleasure of chatting with her.
MY NAME IS … Maxine
MY BRAND IS…Digital Bon Bons
I LIVE IN…Kent with my husband Patrick, our toddler Ava and our cat Betsie
I FEEL MOST AT HOME…With my feet up in the living room, tea in one hand, biscuit in the other and a film on the TV. Cuddles from nearest and dearest whilst this is happening is also a winner.
I AM A MUM AND…Business owner/aka Mum Boss, a Scorpio, a huge film fan and I LOVE vintage.
THINGS THAT KEEP ME AWAKE AT NIGHT…At the moment our little one. She is going through a stage of popping in for a cuddle in the middle of the night. Not so bad when she sleeps, hurts a bit with she kicks you in the nose.
WHEN I GREW UP I WANTED TO BE…An animator for Disney. I love Disney so much and I remember this very clearly being one of the first goals as a child.
MY FIRST STEPS TAKEN TO START MY BRAND WHERE...Research, you need to look at what’s out there and if there is a market for your business. I also spoke to a friend of mine who has her own business and is an amazing Mum Boss for advice. I then focused on developing my brand - the look and feel of the business and what I wanted to offer.
THE HARDEST PART OF MOTHERHOOD IS…I actually think there are quite a few hard things about motherhood, it is the most rewarding and yet the hardest thing I have ever done. Motherhood creates all these emotions that I never even knew existed in myself. Juggling plates is definitely hard, trying to be so many roles while fitting in so much is exhausting and the guilt. Guilt is huge in whatever form it comes in, it’s a killer.
THIS KEEPS ME SANE...My family and friends. Whenever there are times I’m feeling low, like all the blocks are falling, they are there to pick me up. They remind me what’s important each and every day.
I COULD NOT LIVE WITHOUT (PHYSICAL OBJECT)...Tea and a blanket. Seriously tea is my life and I love nothing more than a lovely cuppa, underneath a blanket watching a film.
MY BIGGEST RISK...So far, starting my business – it’s huge. I am so passionate about it and it’s exciting. I can’t wait to see what this year brings.
MY BIGGEST ACCOMPLISHMENT...Becoming a mum. I’m sure a lot of mums say this but it really is true. Ava is by far my biggest accomplishment. Being her mummy brings me such joy and happiness and seeing her grow into the lovely girl she is, it’s just magical.
MY BEST PIECE OF ADVICE…Don’t let fear hold you back – I’ve been guilty of this a lot over the years and I look back and think why, why did I let fear win. You are in charge of your life. There’s ups and downs but in the end it will all be okay, you don’t want to look back and wonder what could have happened – make it happen. You’ve got this.
AND LASTLY A PERSONAL ONE! I WOULD HAVE DONE THIS DIFFERENTLY IN MY LABOUR…Oh my goodness, if I could have, I would have had a little conversation with Ava and asked her nicely to stop slowing down the contractions so I could have had a water birth. Also maybe lay off the Gas and Air, I think I took a bit too much in the end and started hallucinating which did keep the husband entertained, apart from when I thought I needed to go home with the anaesthetist.
