The Mum Club Featuring Delicious Monster Tea

We LOVE a slogan tee, I mean who doesn't, especially when you can customise your own!!! Hello!!! So when we came across DMT we knew we wanted to work with them to produce the first  'THE MUM CLUB' charity t shirt and she did not disappoint. Not only do we love her work but she is a really wonderful women too. Hard working (this is her hobby job!), and really friendly. We wish her every success, especially as she will happily customise 'bellend' onto a tee without second thought!!!

MY NAME IS... Claire

MY BRAND IS... Delicious Monster Tea

CAN YOU DESCRIBE IT IN ONE SENTENCE... bespoke, hand-embroidered t-shirts celebrating femininity and girl power, with a healthy pinch of sass!

I FEEL MOST AT HOME... on the sofa wearing my pyjamas, watching Sunday Brunch with my partner (Huw) and very big mug of tea.

BIGGEST CHALLENGE YOU HAVE FACED AND HOW DID YOU OVERCOME IT... my biggest challenges are all internal. I am slowly learning that keeping your personal demons locked up inside where it’s warm and dark just gives them more strength. Talking openly about mental health shines a light on those little blighters and you come to realise them for what they are - completely normal. Everyone has demons inside, they just have different shapes and sizes. Let those demons out. Let them frolic and dance in the sunlight!

THINGS THAT KEEP ME AWAKE AT NIGHT... new ideas! My mind is always buzzing with new ideas and how I'm going to make them a reality. For me, the hardest part of owning a small business is trying to focus my brand.

I WANTED TO BE WHEN I GREW UP... a wedding planner! I still sort of think it would be amazing...!!

MY FIRST STEPS TAKEN TO START MY BRAND WERE... I had stacks and stacks of embroidery before I ever made it public. The first day I wore one of my t-shirts outside of the house, I was approached by someone asking where it was from. That someone was the gorgeous Rosie, who became my first ever customer. That evening I set up an Etsy shop and Instagram account. The rest is history!

HOW DID YOU FUND YOUR START UP... I'm lucky because there were virtually no set up costs involved in my start up. The first t-shirts that I sold were all embroidered onto Primark t-shirts using equipment that I already owned.

I COULD NOT LIVE WITHOUT (PHYSICAL OBJECT)... the bath tub! Nothing cheers me up like a hot bath, a Lush bath bomb and a battered Stephen King novel.

MY BIGGEST RISK... was probably quitting my job as a primary school teacher in 2015. I tried so hard to make it work, but working in mainstream schools just wasn't right for me. I felt so powerless, unable to help the children in the way that I knew was best. I hope that one day I can return to working with children because they honestly are the best colleagues!

MY BIGGEST ACCOMPLISHMENT... (so far) has got to be my little business.

MY BEST PIECE OF ADVICE... simply find what feels good, and do it. That might mean eating that doughnut, buying that dress or quitting that job. Just do it!

PLANS FOR THE FUTURE... in the near future, I would love to embroider some one-off pieces. I dream of a battered old Levi’s denim jacket with the shoulders covered in tiny pink roses and an expanse of embroidered meadow flowers. In the distant future, I hope that Delicious Monster Tea will allow me to raise a family with the flexibility that working 9-5 could never give.
